Can't Send Email in Vista

B

Brandon

I just installed Outlook 2007 in Vista. My previous install with Outlook
2007 and XP sent email just fine. Now, with the EXACT same SMTP settings, I
am unable to send email. It gives me some generic error message each time
about not being able to connect to my outgoing (SMTP) email server. But
I've triple checked my settings and they're right. The ONLY difference is
that I'm running Vista now instead of XP.

Anyone heard of this isolated "bug" or have suggestions on what to try?

No, nothing from here with that generic "some generic error message" - please, if you want assistance, don't make us guess. Post the EXACT error message if you want help.

The error I posted was the essential part of the error.

Task (e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error (0x80042109): 'Outlook cannot
connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

No, what you just posted is the essential part of the error message - using that EXACT error code produces this article:

How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514

Without that error code, troubleshooting is a crapshoot.

You must enter the outgoing SMTP server name of your ISP meaning the
people you pay for internet service. For example let's say you have a
verizon.net account, but your internet service provider is now optimum
online or cablevision, you would have to enter incoming.verizon.net for
the incoming mail server and mail.optonline.net for the outgoing. The
outgoing mail server must and has to be your ISP's outgoing mail
server's name.
In other words, make sure you verify with your ISP that they haven't changed
any server names, settings, or even modems, for example.
Also, try deleting and recreating the Outlook profile to see of that helps.
If you're using McAfee, it's possible a recent update may have caused a
problem, check their support site.
