Can't send Email via hotmail live

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I already modified my account for the pop server - according to MS instructions. Worked for a couple for days and now it is not sending emails. I get an error 3259 error message (server not responding).
Anyone else getting this error - have they been able to fix it?
I've also posted this question in the hotmail forums.

a user posted in here this morning and said that by following fellow MVP
Diane Ross' advice, he was able to get his Windows Live account working
again:

"Try checking Override default SMTP port and enter 587 if the example does
not work for you."

Perhaps this will also solve your problem.

This solution worked but now my sent emails do not show up in my hotmail sent folder. I use that to verify tha a messgae was in fact sent. Any thoughts on why that may be?

POP mail is automatically placed in the folders "On My Computer" Sent
folder. Before your Sent folder was on the Hotmail server.

Webmail and POP are two different types of email. Webmail is much like IMAP.

SSL configuration will be the issue - it was for me. You donmt need SSL for
the outgoing server on Yahoo free mail ...

I am no expert (!) but this was the issue for me after some research ..

I followed the screen shots to the letter but still no joy. I keep getting the same error message: "A message in your Outbox could not be sent. The account which created the message cannot be found." Error 17199

However when I set up gmail it worked first time both for receiving and sending mails - no problems at all.

Do you have anything else to suggest in order to fix the Hotmail issue?

Thanks for your suggestion. That didn't work either but I've got gmail working just fine. I may just have to give up with Hotmail which is a pain as that's the email address that everyone has.

willing to try anything... but don't know where to look for the
