Can't send email!!

I can't send email to an external domain using Outlook 2002. Emails within my company ([email protected]) work fine, but emails to anyone outside the company ([email protected], (e-mail address removed), etc.) fail almost instantly. Here's the message returned via the System Administrator

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients

Subject: Test Messag
Sent: 4/27/2004 10:18 A

The following recipient(s) could not be reached

'(e-mail address removed)' on 4/27/2004 10:18 A
550 not local host hotmail.com, not a gatewa

I've tried a number of different solutions (modifying outgoing server settings, changing SMTP, etc.) with no success.
