Cant send messages

I started Entourage last night for the first time and brought in my Earthlink account. Today I cant send and get the error:

Authentication required. Help at <http://www.earthlink.net/go/emailsettings>

I have no idea what this means. any thoughts?

Go to Tools > Accounts, and open your EarthLink account. Under "Receiving
mail", verify that the account ID is your e-mail address; if not, replace it
with your e-mail address. Look for the "Sending mail" settings near the
bottom of the window. Click the "advanced sending options" button. Check
the option for "SMTP server requires authentication", and "Use same settings
as receiving mail server". Click OK to save, and see if that fixes the
problem. If not, open the account again, open the advanced sending options,
and check "Override default SMTP port: 587". Click OK and try again.

(Note: these instructions were written for Entourage 2004, but the process
should be quite similar in Entourage 2008.)
