Cant send to mail from any office suit program

Hello,

When Outlook is open all programs (Word, Excel, Access, etc) cannot use the
Send Email function to send a document as an attachment in an email. All
programs throw back a General Mail Error in their own unique way.

If I close Outlook then I can use the functions just fine. I think this
problem is due to the fact that Outlook locks the OST file for use by it and
only it.

Does anyone have a solution other then installing an add-on or closing
outlook each time you would like to send an attachment?

Thanks for your help.

Outlook version? Office version? Is Outlook the default mail application?
Why do you think the .ost file is involved? The .ost is only an offline
storage of your exchange mailbox.

Please always post the exact error message when you request assistance - it
is 99% of the time the key to solving the problem.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (12.0.6423.1000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000)

Outlook is the default mail client.
The ost file is just a guess. Because the function works when outlook is
closed.

WORD: Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Operation not
Supported"
EXCEL: General mail failure. Quit Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail
system, and try again.

I can continue but you get the point. This happens on many of our computers
and its unacceptable to have to close outlook each time you want to send
somethingl
