Can't send using my DSL,, HELP

K

I cannot send the test message to either of my smtp email accounts
whilst using DSL. Incoming mail/ logging into smtp tests work fine..
but it just says check email address as the fault report.. I know this
to be fine. When I use my old 56k dial up everything works fine.. very
annoying..

I'm using BT broadband, into a belkin dsl lan modem linked to a belkin
wireless router.. it all worked fine for months.. then 2 days ago just
stopped..

Any ideas?

are you authenticating with the outgoing server using the correct
information?

Yes.. I'm sure how come it works when using dial up modem??

A couple of thoughts ..

1. Something changed 2 days ago... did BT change anything?

2. There is a difference, and this may be a clue, to how you are
connected to Internet when dialing up (works) and DSL (doesn't work).
Has the router gotten "confused"? Maybe restarting it might help?

I'm thinking that the problem cause has something to do with how the BT
mail server "sees" your email client ...

Just a hunch.

Is your dialup account from the same provider as your DSL? Many providers
either make you authenticate when you send or force you to use their SMTP
server.
