Can't set orientation to Portrait

P

I have a doc in landscape orientation that I want to set
to portrait. When I attempt this, I get the following
error:

"Settings you chose for the left and right margins, column
spacing, or paragraph indents are too large for the page
width in some sections"

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 290972 says this can
occur if the document contains columns. Mine does not, so
the workaround they provide is of no use.

Does anyone have any advice?

It doesn't matter whether it contains columns or not, just go to the Columns
dialog and make sure that "Equal column width" is checked.

More on this, if only 1 column is selected then the "Equal Column
width" option is disabled. To turn it on select "One" up in the
presets. Sounds strange, but this command will turn the option on even
if it is disabled in the dialog box.

The checkbox doesn't actually enable when you do that, but
what the hell it works. Thanks so much! What a nasty bug
