Can't start Office 2003 shortcut bar

When upgrading to Office 2003, the Office shortcut bar
disappeared. I can't seem to locate the file either in
the startup folder or on the installation CD. Any clues
or is this a new feature?

Its was taken out by Microsoft in a blatant act of stupidity and lack of
concern for the MANY people that have grown to love the toolbar. If
you have Win XP you can make an ugly toolbar to use for quick access to
programs. I have also heard that it may be possible to use a Office XP
install disc to install the old toolbar back.

All in All Microsoft really screwed up big time in Office 2003. The
two main complaints I have are loss of the wonderful Office toolbar and
the idiotic removal of help files from the install disc. Now one must
access the internet to even look up a simple help question.

You can set Office to use local help files.

As for the Office Shortcut Bar, I, too miss it and installed the prior
version (Office XP) shortcut bar. It *is* duplicative of the quicklaunch
and other toolbars that you can create using the OS under 2000 or XP (the
only windows versions that will run Office System 2003) but familiar things
are hard to give up.

If these are the only complaints that you have about Office 2003 (so far at
least) then Microsoft has done a pretty good job of it.

I'm interested to hear that it may be possible to use an Office XP install
disc to install the old toolbar. I love the Office Shortcut Bar and I miss
it. Does anyone have some info on how (or if) it's possible to reinstall the
Shortcut Bar from the Office XP disc?

Insert the XP disk and select a custom install. I click on the Unavailable
box at the top of the tree to save time. Then expand the Office Tools
Section and on the Office toolbar, use "install to hard drive." Okay out
and it should install just fine.

(Note, you will still have to enter the product key, even if you are only
using this tiny stub of Office.)
