Ok. Everyone has problems syncing iCal with Entourage. I can't get Address Book to sync so I can use PocketMac for Blackberry to sync my information. I need some serious help here. I understand UNIX and Windows very well and I know the Mac is running UNIX but I just can't get this to work. I've looked at the archives and am getting no where. Can someone walk me through this step by step?

Unfortunately, you haven't provided nearly enough information. What's
wrong, what are trying to do, what's not working etc. What BlackBerry
are you using, are you using PocketMac or Missing Sync etc etc.

Kerry,

Ok. I'm trying to sync my Blackberry 8700 with my MacBook Pro running Entourage 2008 [Office 2008 4 Mac loaded] According to the Blackberry folks it should sync, but I keep getting messages which say MS sync service not running. RIM said sync Entourage with iCal [done] and Address Book [doesn't seem to sync] and that should do it. I went to prefs, selected sync services then checked the first two boxes and said "Combine". Nothing happens.

RIM says the direct sync should work and I'm using the Blackberry USB cable because it shows up on the desktop and the Blackberry says connected to desktop. I am running Leopard 10.5.6 on an Intel 2.6 dual core with 4 GB of ram and 250 gb hard drive. Can you help?

That's a pretty broad statement you made. Not everyone has problems syncing.
The more devices you have that sync the more likely you'll have issues.

Run through this check list:

How to reset Sync Services:

After you reset, turn on only one item at a time to sync. Don't have any
other devices attached. Sync to Apple applications first.

There are several suggestions on the troubleshoot Sync Services page.

Hope this helps!

Diane,

Checked everything you suggessted. The problem isn't with iCal which is what everyone SEEMS to be having problems with. I can't get a sync with Address Book to work, let alone getting my blackberry to sync with entourage. RIM suggessted that I sync with iCal [no problem] AND address book [huge problem].

Thoughts?

Book to work, let alone getting my blackberry to sync with entourage. RIM

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there.

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
Office install or your base OS files.

Be sure to turn off Sync Services in Entourage preferences before switching
Identities or it won't allow you to check Sync Services in the new Identity.

Let me know what you find.

Hey Paul, I'm not sure why you're having trouble sync. Try this:

In Entourage preferences, sync turn off all modules, OK. Now go back
in and choose just Addressbook. You'll get a popup with three options.
For this sync choose Entourage overwrites Addressbook. Check your
Addressbook. Did it populate. If so, choose your address and make this
my card. Now back to Entourage and turn off Addressbook sync, OK. Now
go back in and turn on Addressbook sync but this time choose combine.
Give it a bit of time. They should now be sync'd.

Since you are talking to RIM I am guessing you're using PocketMac.
That works fine but I do find it extremely slow. I use Missing Sync
for the BlackBerry. Its very fast. There are a couple of issues with
it though as in v2 to implement additional sync modules they designed
it quite differently,

First, let me know if you were able to get you Addressbook sync'd. If
so, then sync the handheld should be fine.

However, do note that sync in the Mac environment has issues - too
many for me to go into but a scan of the forum or Mactopia and you'll
see what I mean. So you should be able to get sync going but I
suspect, like I do, you'll have hiccups a long the way.
