Cant test database access on home machine

Dear enthusiast

I am having difficulty testing a web MSAccess database interface.

Can I do this using the one computer?

I am running Windows XP and have installed IIS and FrontPage Server
Extensions which I am assuming act as a server.

I create a web site using the Database Interface Wizard in
c:/Inetpub/wwwroot
When I open the web pages in Internet Explorer I get the message in yellow
(below).

Yet as far as I can determine I am using a server that supports Active
Server Pages (ie IIS and FP Server Extensions).

Any help would be appreciated as I have spent a day and a half trying to
test a web linked database on my home machine before arranging for it to be
hosted by a hosting service that hosts FrontPage extensions.

Cheers...Alan

The Database Results component on this page is unable to display database
content. The page must have a filename ending in '.asp', and the web must be
hosted on a server that supports Active Server Pages.

This certainly improved things as the pages created by the Database
Interface Wizard appear but are clearly not working properly. Please note
that at this stage I am only using the pages and Database1 inserted by the
FP Database Interface Wizard. It should be a pretty stock standard
interface.
1. I can submit the Submission form and I do receive a Form Confirmation
page but the submitted information is not incorporated into Database1 (as
indicated by opening the database and looking at the content of the table).
2. The results page does not show any results, including results manually
added to the database table through MS Access.
3. I cannot get the Database Editor - Results page to show anything other
than that shown below.

Key Name Choice
Database Results Wizard Error
The operation failed. If this continues, please contact your server
administrator.

To check this out I edited the fpdbrgn1.inc file as you indicated in an
earlier post but this did not have any effect so I changed it back again.
The earlier post said:

changed the line in The FP2003 code has changed slightly. To see the true
error, open the hidden
folder /_fpclass/ and edit the fpdbrgn1.inc file

At about line 19, change :

fp_DEBUG = False
to :
fp_DEBUG = True

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Kathleen

I ran a Detect and Repair from Frontpage 2003 and then a Windows Update and
an Office Update, just to be sure. There was one Windows software update
but it did not mention Frontpage or SP1 and I don't know what it was for.

In any event this fixed a number of the problems, but not all. I will now
try things out using my Access database and the Database Wizard and go from
there.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance. I greatly appreciate your
help.

Kind regards...Alan

Alan, can you post a page you have worked on, so we can see the code and see
if there's something in it.

What I am observing is that I can view but not edit, add or delete database
records. I am using:
FP 2003 SP1
Windows XP Proferssional with IIS and Microsoft Server Extensions added from
the supplied CD
This is all run on the one computer.

I am using the Database Interface Wizard to create the database and web
pages.
I have checked the permissions on the database (Tools>Options>Tables/Queries
and confirmed Rum Permissions is set to Users (and not Owners)
I call up the web page in Internet Explorer using: http://localhost/
All the pages load properly, the internal hyperlinks and frames work
properly, I could display existing records, but I can only view records, not
edit, delete or add new records. For example when trying to delete a record
I get the following:

Database Results Wizard Error
Description: Could not delete from specified tables.
Number: -2147467259 (0x80004005)
Source: Microsoft JET Database Engine

When I used the Discussion Web Site Wizard instead, again the pages loaded
properly but I could not submit a discussion thread. I received the
following message - but as far as I can see I have the FP Server Extensions
installed.

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish
this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.
Any suggestions???

Cheers...Alan

This all worked wonderfully. I ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling
IIS and its Frontpage Extensions and then followed your advice and bingo -
it all worked.

I am very grateful. Thanks.
