Can't turn off automatic dashes ----- changing to 1 long line.

S

Susan

Running MS Word 2000 9.0.3821 SR-1 (Office 2000) on Windows XP.

At one time I enjoyed having the automatic change of dashes --- to one
long line and equal signs ==== changing to a double long line, but no
longer. I have looked and tried everything I can find to turn off this
formatting to no avail. I suspect the error/glitch is in the registry. I
have:

Deselected:

Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoFormat As You Type > Symbol characters
(--) with symbols (-)

Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoFormat > Symbol characters (--) with
symbols (-)

Can't spot anything in Tools > Options under such sections as View
General Edit Compatibility pertaining to this problem.

In the knowledge base under "HOW TO: Turn Off Word AutoFormat Features
in Word 2000", it told of deselecting the above and if that didn't work
to delete registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data

Gee, I hate tinkering around in the registry. Is there an option I'm
missing to turn this formating off?

TIA.

In Word, click on Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You
Type tab | uncheck the "Borders" box | OK.

Thank you, thank you!!! It worked. Gee, the "Border" option never
occurred to me as the cause.
