Can't turn ON reading pane

Clicked on View to to turn ON the reading pane but it doesn't allow me to do
it.

After furious head scratching, Kathol asked:

Maybe it is squashed. Move the to the edges of where the reading pane
should be to see if there is a divider bar that you can drag to enlarge
the pane.
