CANT TURN SPELL CHECK ON

G

Gabrielle

I was writing in Word when I realized that the spell check was not on.

I went to preferences, spelling and grammar; while I can edit the
grammar check (its turned "on") the spelling section is gray and I can
not edit or click on it.

Can someone help me with this problem?

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your help!
I searched through the dtb of FAQ's but could not find anything about
my problem, and Im a little afraid of doing the procedure for checking
damaged files as Im not sure Ill do it right, and end up ruining my
Office files.

I feel silly saying that--but its honest. Should I go ahead and do
that, and are there any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

Hi Gabrielle,

Yes, you should test your preference files. It's very easy (except that you
didn't tell us what version of Word you're in so I'm going to assume Word
2004; if it's another version, you'll have to go back to the article for the
file locations and names).

First quit Word (not minimize, but quit). Then go to
Home>Library>Preferences>Microsoft. Drag the following files to your
desktop:

com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist
com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist

Now relaunch Word. If the problem is solved, you're all set except for
resetting your Word preferences. If the problem is not solved, quit Word
again, drag the two files on your desktop back to where they were, and click
OK when asked if you want to replace the files that are already there.

Let us know how it goes.
