Can't "undo" an indent under a summary task.

Phil

I accidently indented some tasks, which essentially created a summary task
just above them. I don't seem to be able to undo them. I was just in the
phase of listing the tasks and phasing them in my project so I hadn't set any
dates or durations. The inability to back out of this error easily is
unerving and will keep me from using the application going forward if it
can't be solved.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm using Project 2003.

I also experience the inability to outdent so that a subtask is no longer a
subtask and I also can not delete a subtask. In both of these instances the
subtask is the only subtask to a summary task.

I installed SP2 which is supposed to contain SP1 but it did not correct the
issues I am having. Can anyone help? With projects ever changing it would
be quite combersom to have to delete and create new each time.

Mike,
Yes SP2 is supposed to contain the indent/outdent fix for Project 2003.
Since that didn't solve your problem, perhaps your file has some
corruption. I suggest you try a couple of things. First, try the Detect
and Repair under the Help menu. If that doesn't make a difference, go to
our MVP website at: http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and take a look at FAQ 43 - File Bloat? Might be corruption.

If neither of those help, there might be some other tricks we can come
up with.

Julie, you helped me once before. Now
I have MSP 2003 prof @ sp3 - I suddenly cannot outdent. I tried another
plan with same results so don't think file is corrupted. Heard of any new
wrinkles?

Hello Dick,

I haven't heard anything new of late. If this is affecting all
files, you're correct, it doesn't sound like a single file
corruption. If you add the Outline Level field to the view, I
assume you are trying to "outdent" a task at outline level 2 or
higher?

A couple of other things to check:

Is the project sorted? If the project is sorted and the option
"Keep outline structure" is unchecked, it will disable the indent
and outdent buttons. See Project > Sort > Sort by. Select ID and
check the option "Keep outline structure". This is a project file
by project file setting, so I can't imagine it is at the root of the
problem. But it is something to check.

I am also assuming you have SP-3 installed to Project -- not just
office SP-3. See Help > About Microsoft Office Project and ensure
that SP-3 shows after the release information.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
