Can't uninstall, fix or install Office 2000

When I try to run a MSOffice application (any) like Word.
I receive an error telling me I have to install the
application. When I insert the CD, installation starts
then I receive an error message... "This patch package
could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists
and that you can access it, or contact the application
vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer
patch program."... ALL Office applications fail. I receive
the same message when using the Windows application
uninstaller. I figure if I could just properly uninstall
it, I will be able to reinstall it. I am using the latest
Windows installer (2.0). Help!!

I also have this problem & in one instance a reformat of
pc still hasnt helped. It all started after installing SP4
for Win2k. IMHO, its all to do with values stored in the
registry & a roaming profile for laptop/docking stations.
Check Event Viewer (Application) for MsiInstaller logs
detailing the error. Use the quoted values for a search in
the registry and delete where you can. Then try re-install
of office. This enabled me to install Office successfully
but still with minor problems. Im still working on other
methods to resolve completely having gained a fair bit of
knowledge searching through the hellhole that is the
registry! Post any Q's and i'll try to suggest actions in
more detail.
