Can't uninstall Photo Editor

J

Jeff

Hello,

I'm trying to uninstall Photo Editor off of a 2k3 Terminal Server, but the
option to do so has disappeared and I was hoping there was a way to manually
uninstall this app? I can't remove it from the office setup program, it
literally has disappeared. Has anyone seen this before?

Note that this is an installation of office 2000 sr1a, with Outlook removed
and Outlook 2003 is installed. Although the new Picture Manager seems to be
installed, Photo Editor is still an installed app and is the default for most
graphic files, even though I don't want it to be.

The option to uninstall has probably not disappeared, you are just confused
by Office's unusual un-installation interface. When installing Office, one
can chose to install with Custom options, rather than "FULL" or "STANDARD"
installations. The Custom options are then chosen by tickmarks next to
relevant parts of the Office software. Photo Editor is among those options.
In Office XP, which I just installed yesterday, it's among "Additional
Components" or something like that. So, to remove it, you have to get to this
tickmark area and simply unselect Photo Editor and it will be removed.
To change the default editor for file types, including graphics, open
Windows Explorer, then Chose Toools->"Folder Options"->"File Types". I
personally like to Change to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Cheers,

André

Andre,

Thanks for the reply. However, I am an experienced IT manager who has
worked with various implementations of office. I am not confused by the
interface, I know exactly where photo editor should be and its not there,
this is what is confusing.

I do know about the file types as well. If you re-read the post, you will
see that the computer is a Terminal Server. This server is being used for
many different people and changing the file types for each one of them has
not worked in the past. Apparently there is a global registry setting that I
can't get to, so my other best option was to uninstall photo editor - my
users don't need it anyway, the Picture and Fax Viewer works just fine for
their needs.
