Can't update Office 2000

Deej

When promted for the MS Office disc 1 I get an error message saying it can't
find the DATA.MSI file located on the disc. It's the original disc from MS
and I can' update anything from the SP1 to ..... without it reading the disc.
Anybody?????

Hi Deej,

Data1.msi is the name used on CD#1 of every Office 2000
family product member. When you're asked for the CD
check that dialog box in the 'use feature from' box to
be sure the CD you're using is the same one being requested.
It's not always the Office 2000 one it's looking to find.

Hi Deej,

There is a Data1.msi on CD#1. Did the 'use feature from'
box in the dialog requesting the CD say it was MS Office 2000
or MS Works, or MS Word, or ???

Is the name of the Edition of MS Office 2000 on the face of
CD#1 the same as in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel?

If you use 'Detect & Repair' from the Help menu in Word or Excel 2000
does it complete successfully?

try using add/remove software in control panel to reinstall office 2000 (just
double click it and choose repair/reinstall on the next panel). i had the
same problem with various systems in our computer center. it would ask for
the cd, i would load it, and it would say it couldn't find the data1.msi
file. someone posted the repair idea and when i tried it, it worked just
fine. good luck.
