Can't Update Resource Calendar

M

MichaelDBang

Hello All,

I have a project and I'm trying to update a resource's base calendar within
the project. However, when I select the Base Calendar field, it's disabled.
How do I re-enable this field?

Thank you,
Michael

Hm. I swear I've been able to do that before.

I have a resource that has a special calendar (basically 7 days a week).
I'm looking to divide this resource on to two projects: 1 @ 3 days a week,
the other @ 4 days a week.

Is this possible?

Thank you. :)

You may have been permitted to change the resource's calendar in th
past; but perhaps the Project Server Administrator removed tha
permission.

Instead of changing the resource's calendar (which would not reall
accomlish what you want), you could consider using a Task Calendar fo
the tasks on which the resource will work. One project's taks could us
the 3-day calendar, and the other project's tasks the 4-day calendar.

Good luck!

Thanks Reid for that! I will do that exactly.

It turns out I'm the Project Server Administrator. :) I'm a newbie
though... looks like I turned off my own permission somewhere? Where is the
permission to change resource calendars?

Thanks again!

Hi,

Attention, even making a base calendar (thus a task calendar) is subject to
a Server permission. I don't have Server before me here, but I think I
remember it's in Server Settings, Operational Policies, Additional Server
Settings.

BTW, it seems to me that allowing a different resource calendar per project
is not very logical in teh framework of an Enterprise Resource Pool.

There are several related permissions and processes. I cannot take th
time to outline them all right now, but here are some pointers:

Global permission: Manage Enterprise Calendars
Category Permission: Edit Enterprise Resource Data

One method for changing a resource's working time: Project Pro > Tool
Enterprise Options > Open Enterprise Resource Pool. Selec
resource(s). Click "Open..." icon. Double-click resource. On th
General tab, click on Change Working Time.

Another item related to calendars in in PWA > Server Settings
Additional Server Settings > Allow projects to use local base calendars

Good luck!

Before you can change a resource's Base Calendar value, you need to check
out the resource for editing in the Enterprise Resource Pool. You do this
by clicking Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool. Did
you do that? I doubt seriously that you turned off this permission if you
are new to Project Server as I think you are. Also, in the future, please
post your Project Server questions in the microsoft.public.project.server
newsgroup, as this newsgroup is dedicated to the Microsoft Project desktop
application only. Hope this helps.

Hi All,

Just to mention that all of this indeed confirms that the original question
of the poster cannot be solved: you can never change an enterprise
resource's calendar WITHIN A PROJECT.
It will inevitably have the same calendar in all projects.
Hope this helps,
