Can't upgrade from Works 9 to Office Pro 2007

I just bought a new computer from HP that came with MS Works 9 installed on
it. I also purchased an Office Pro 2007 upgrade (which states on the side of
the box that MS Works 6.0-10 are eligible for this upgrade). When I tried to
install Office Pro 2007 I got an error telling me it couldn't find any
eligible software for the upgrade. I found a Knowledge Base article about a
problem with MS Works 9 and Office 2007 upgrading.

There was a link to an update to fix this problem. I downloaded the update
and attempted to install it. It asks for me to point it to the Works9.msi
file. I searched all partitions for this file and it wasn't to be found
anywhere. HP does not provide disks for the software that is pre-installed on
the computer. They do have a partition on one of the hard drives that has
recovery information should you need to reformat the computer and get it back
to the way it was when it originally shipped but no where on that partition
is located a file named Works9.msi.

I emailed HP tech support about this issue and they basically told me what I
just typed that there are no disks of software and that the Works9.msi file
would be a part of the recovery software.

So my question is does anyone know what I can do to install the Office Pro
2007 upgrade on my machine without having to go out and buy Works 9? I have a
legal copy on my computer I just don't have a Works9.msi file to point the
update to.

I dont know, but is the recovery partition one that enables you to create
recovery cd's - often it is, HP's FAQ's will tell you

Hi Mac,

In many cases the 'recovery partition' also has the option to allow you to create a set of CDs for the products using a utility in
Start=>Programs.

Did you restart the PC after putting in the hotfix? Looking for the .msi file would normally be if the installed software for the
upgrade wasn't found. Have you used any registry cleaners on the PC? Is MS Works working?

Had the same problem, here is what I did> just install the free 60 day trial
version and then you can upgrade with your disk.

After creating recovery disks from my computer, I was able to search them and
find the Works9.msi file. I then had to move that file to my local hard drive
and point the Microsoft update to that file. Once the MS update was installed
then Office Pro 2007 recognized MS Works and I was able to install the Office
Pro 2007 upgrade.
