Can't use my MS Office

I have recently purchased the above software package.
I have not registered my product, as I have been travelling and it has
been less than 3 weeks since purchasing and installing. I am not sure
if all of the office programs have been working, as the only ones I have
been using these past 3 weeks are Entourage and MSN Messenger.
This morning, I tried to use Word and it froze just after opening the
new document and I was only able to enter one letter. Then I tried
excel and it froze at the first cell inside the new book. Then I tried to
re-open my previously working Entourage and couldn't get it to even
open. After all this, I thought I would reinstall the software, which I
have now done a couple of times, as well as 2 "remove office" attempts.
My questions are:-
1. Please advise how I can get the software to actually work.
2. If I get MS Office up and running, can I register this product on line?
I hope someone out there can help me!??

You don't mention it but I suppose from your description that you didn't run
the Updates From Mactopia:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx
That may be a good start to have all function running correctly.

Basically, you'd need to apply the 10.1.2, 10.2.4 and 10.1.5 updates, but it
may depend, as in some versions the patches have already been applied. This
you can find out reading the infos of the "Microsoft Component Plugin" in
the "Office" folder.

After having applied the required updates, you should "Repair the Disk
Permissions" (using the "Disk Utility" > "First aid" tab) and see I things
are better.

Note that registering, whether on- or off-line, only signs you up for a
MacOffice newsletter (which can be interesting), but is not necessary to
use Office.
