Can't view embedded objects

Office 2002 running on Win98.

Have a user that when she opens documents that have
embedded objects she can't see them. Instead she gets a
link like this: {EMBED PowerPoint.Slide.8} which she can
then click to open it in another doc. When we open the
same doc on another PC we see the object within the doc
and don't get the link option. Is this a setting we need
to change because we can't find it.
