can't view formula bar in Excel v.X

I installed Office v.X on a G3 desktop and on G4 Powerbook. Can't view
formula bar on Powerbook but can on the desk computer. Separate
installations from same CD. Reinstalled Excel but this didn't address
problem. Any ideas? (G3 is running Jaguar. Powerbook is running Panther.
Could this be relevant?)

Presumably you tested the View | Formula bar command? What happens? Also
there's a setting in Excel | Preferences, View tab. (just in case it's that
simple)

In case corrupt prefs or something are to blame. Reinstalling doesn't help
unless you un-installed first.
