Can't view MDI files in Office XP Professional

B

Ben

I have MS Office Document Imaging open, but it only recognizes TIF formats.
When I try to open the MDI file, I get an error message that reads:

"The selected file is not a valid Microsoft Office Document Imaging file."

I cannot open directly from the app as it only sees TIF files.

Please help. Thanks

It is my work computer. Upgrading is not an option for me. I have no issues
viewing at home.

Any other ideas?

I have the exact same problem and I have Office 2003. I can right click and
choose Open With, I see "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" but I get the
same error message "The selected file is not a valid Microsoft Office
Document Imaging file."
I think the file is valid because someone else said they could open it. Any
help?

Please start your own thread as you don't have the exact same problem.
Office XP doesn't handle MDI file and you don't have Office XP.

In Document Imaging, Tools, Options, Other tab, File Import Preferences, select
MDI

My version - 1.03.2349.1 - doesn't have that option available. I can go
View, Options, and then Rotate/Straighten and a few other OCR options.

I don't think the Help file will change the capabilites of MODI XP.

MDI MDI is a file format based on the TIFF that is designed to store
images by page layout. MDI files can be opened or edited only in Office
Document Imaging 2003. Use this option only if the people you want to
view your publication have Office 2003.

In general, images that are saved in the MDI file format take up less
disk space than the same images saved as TIFF files. The image quality
of an image saved in the MDI file format is comparable to that of the
same image saved in TIFF.

Unfortunately, I cannot get past my firm's firewall to download this file.

Thanks though.

Ben,

Please see my reply to Mary. That Help file won't change/upgrade the
ability of MODI XP to open MDI files. That feature came with Office 2003.
