In Tools | Autocorrect do you have the option to capitalize checked?

From my typing class (some quarter century ago) I learnt about the
shift keys. They're the ones with a fat, upward pointing arrow, found at
the lower left and right corners of the keyboard. To capitalize a
letter, while typing it you keep one shift key depressed with the pinkie
of the "free hand" (the one not typing the letter).

From experience I learnt to hate typing aides in general, and auto
capitalize in particular: In Norwegian (and to my knowledge, most
languages using the latin alphabet) some abbreviations are ended with a
full stop. Autocaps kicks in. Ordinal numbers are marked with a trailing
full stop. Autocaps kicks in again. Omissions are marked with ellipsis
(...). Need I say what would happen?

I know. Office 2003 has improved the tracking of autocorrection to near
perfection. Still, if you have the full use of your hands I suggest you
learn to type properly. That said, Rob's advice on seeing the "tools"
menu instead of the "insert" menu will most likely help you fix the problem.

Keme...

Try ellipsis with auto correct turned on it doesn't cap. the next word with
or without a space.
Doesn't seem to do anything with ordinals either
Try: etc. - no cap after that either.

I never really used autocorrect on my old machine, I kept it turned
off...seems to work better these days.

*That's exactly what I said.*
- My experience with older versions was that autocorrect was a nuisance.
It was turned on by default. I'd disable it and it got turned back on
with every update.
- Current autocorrect (in office 2003) is near perfect.

*I still keep it turned off, and advise others to do so.*
- Logical reason: it only works in MS Office, and keeping it on
encourages bad typing habits.
- Emotional reason: Previous experience has led to strong feelings
against the machine typing for me.

No problem. I wasn't too clear about it, I guess.

My first posting came out a bit sarcastic, which I regret. My apologies
to Leroy for that.
