caption nightmare

I have two problems

*1.* By browsing this board I noticed that I am not the only one who i
struggeling with my firs problem. The thing is that I want to keep m
captions with my figures but when I order my picture to be at a certai
place on the page, the caption is not moving with it. One of th
suggestions I have read here, is to put the caption and the figure in
frame, but I don't think this is a very elegant option, because afte
you did this, you have to resize the frame (and you can't just say tha
it has to be as broad as the page), you have to remove the border an
you loose some of the formatting of your figure and caption.

A better solution is to put the figure and the caption in a table, an
put the table at a certain position on the page, but I really thin
that this is not really elegant as well... therefore my question: Doe
anyone have a better solution?!?

*2.* When I try to align a figure, or object to the top of the margin
the alignment is not taking notice of the header that the page has. I
there any way one can align a figure to the header instead of to th
page or the margin (when you do the same with aligning to the bottom
there is no problem, it does not intefer with the footer)?

I hope someone can help me layouting my document in a *decent* way...

You can avoid this kind of problem by always keeping your figures i
line with text, rather than floating over it.

What kind of document is it? What version of word

Hi Mwbouwkamp,
The thing is that I want to keep my
captions with my figures but when I order my picture to be at a certain
place on the page, the caption is not moving with it. One of the
suggestions I have read here, is to put the caption and the figure in a

you loose some of the formatting of your figure and caption.
A frame does not have to be as broad as a page. But if you're trying to
use the same instructions Jane (I think it was) found, then you're going
to have the problem with the frame being the wrong size.

Insert the picture first, inline with the text. Make sure it's selected.
Now insert the frame (it should size to the picture). Press right-arrow,
then Enter, to make a new paragraph in the frame. Now you should be able
to insert the caption.
