How do I prevent the "carets" that enclose a field code from appearing in my
document? (These carets are actually the "lesser than" and "greater than"
symbols that enclose a field code.) I'm using Word 2007. Scenario: I want the
Document Title and Version Number that is typed on the cover page to appear
in the footers. To achieve this, first I created a style named "Document
Title." Then I created a content control on the cover page and applied the
Document Title style. On the footer, I inserted a field code by
clicking/selecting: Insert > Quick Parts > Field > Links and References >
StyleRef > Document Title. I repeated these same steps for a Version Number.
After typing the document title and verion number in the applicable content
controls on the cover page, they appear in the footer, but the "carets" are
still there. For example, if I type Training Manual Version 3.0 on the cover,
this is what appears in my footers: <Training Manual><Version 3.0> Thank
you in advance for your assistance.
