Cascade dropdown list - browser form

I would like to create an xml file to do a cascade drop down, i am trying to
find information on that, not using sql, just simple xml file in a browser

Sounds like the right idea, will my developers understand that they need to
get a list from sharepoint and be able to do a drop down list in cascade
style since i can not use filters in browser froms. Do they have to connect
to sql from sharepoint in order to retrieve the items?
