Categories messed up

I have and Exchange 2003 server fully patched. Most users are on outlook
2003 or earlier.
A small (4 person) deparment just migrated to Office 2007. Contacts have
been dropped out of some the the categories. The contacts are still listed
in the Contact list but they are not a member of all the the categories.
User error can not be ruled out, but someone would have had to open over 50
users and change the remove or edit the categories.
Can the different way Oulook 2007 and 2003 handle the master category list
be a factor. I will be migrating 2500 more users to office 2007. Not
knowing what happened is a little spooky!

Do the users have a category assigned to the new quick click button? then
it's likely they clicked in the category column and accidentally removed the
category.

Possibly, I am looking at the quick click features. However, the entire
catagory did not disappear. One category that had 56 members not only has
13. Other categories are similar. The contacts are still listed in address
list, they are not part of all the categories they were in previously.

I was able to restore and collect the mailbox from 2 weeks ago. The
categories do not appear to be messed up. I will move forward with the
restores to see if I can pin point when the problem occurred.

Having watched many users accidentally click in the Category column in 2007,
I'm with Michael on this one. In older versions you could click anywhere on
a Contact and the Category wouldn't accidentally change, in 2007 it does and
it's not immediately obvious as you aren't looking at that field at the
time.
