Categories no longer linked to incoming mail

Any Help Appreciated:

Running Office 2004 on imac G5 running 10.5.4
Never had a problem.
Have no rules set up.

Recently all incoming mail no longer highlights the category it belongs to,
they were all set up to be coloured according to category.

In Address book all categories are still valid and coloured accordingly but
all mail now arrives in plain black.

This just happened one day, all older mail that is in inbox is still
coloured.

Any suggestions?
It may have been a recent office update but I can find no source or
explanation.

check in the entourage prefs - there is an option in the 'address book'
section to link contact categories to incoming messages

Thanks for the hint but already checked preferences.
Automatic link for both send and receive is checked

Is it still happening? or was it a one-day glitch?

If it's still happening with that preference set, try disabling the
pref, closing the preferences window, re-open the preferences window and
reset the pref.

If that fails to work, it may point to corruption in the database and a
rebuild could be in order.

I have already rebuilt the database.
Are there any preferences I can trash to see if that works?
