Hi,

since a recent update my coloured categories have stopped appearing on incoming emails that are in my address book like they always have. Not sure what I can do as it all has to be done manually now??

appreciate your help.

Make sure it's enabled at Entourage (menu) > Preferences > Address Book
Automatically link contacts...
That is still applied in preferences and hasn't changed. are there any other possibilities you can think of?[/QUOTE]

I am having a similar (identical?) problem.

I just upgraded from Office:Mac 2004 to Office:Mac 2008.

Before the upgrade, incoming emails were assigned the appropriate category/color if they senders were in the Address Book.

After the upgrade, categories/color are not being assigned to messages from Contact senders.

The appropriate box is checked in the preferences.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

sorry Diane, can you explain? I see all my existing categories and can label incoming emails manually but they just aren't getting labelled automatically as they always have..

Are your contacts still associated with the categories, as they were in E
2004?

Checking to see if only default categories were imported or if your custom
categories also came through.

You did check your preferences?? I'm suspicious that you have corruption and
it could be in your database.

1) Export your Address Book as an .rge file under File --> Export
2) Create a new Identity in Entourage and import your contacts. You might
need to set a few custom categories for this test.
3) Enter one account for testing and under the Options tab in the account,
set to "leave on server".
4) download some mail and see if the problem still exists. If the problem
goes away then we know it's your database. Rebuild your database.
5) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there.
6) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
Office install or your base OS files.

How to rebuild:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/rebuild.html>

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.
