Categories not sticking for new pages I want in my Site Map

This is so strange -- I've recently added some new pages to my site, and I'm
trying to categorize them into their own category to include in my site map.
All of the other pages on the site have been working fine, but whenever I add
the category to these files, then go back in to check the Workgroup tab of
the Properties dialog, there are no categories selected.

I don't know why the category won't stick. The only difference between these
files and the others is that they have a different DWT (dynamic web template)
applied, and they are several folder levels beneath the others. Is there a
requirement that the files must be at a certain folder level, and I may have
exceeded that?

Thanks for any advice.

No
But you need to make the Categories code an editable region in the DWT

Aha! That makes sense...but how is it done? I had initially tried setting the
category on the DWT, but that just adds the DWT to the site map (of course).
I'm not sure how to make the category setting editable without actually
adding it to the DWT.

thanks,

Ok, I've just played around with this a bit and I may have it. I added the
category to the DWT, then I went into Categories and deselected the category
for the DWT. I was afraid that would remove all of the category code from the
template, but it did not. Now it looks like pages attached to that template
will inherit the code without the category selected, and I can then select
the category and all is well.

Is there a better way to do this, or did I get it? :)

thanks!

Assign the DWT to any category
- in Code view wrap the category code in an Editable region

<!-- #BeginEditable "doccategory" -->
<!--[if gte mso 9]>.......<![endif]-->
<!-- #EndEditable -->

- Apply the DWT
Edit your categories on the applied pages
