CD drive not working after MS Office updates installed

I ran Windows Office update last week on my Inspiron 1100, since then, LG CRN
8245B CD drive won't work. Worked during update, asked for several MS product
CD's.

Have removed the device and reloaded. Have changed the drive letter. Still
no luck... Device manager shows the CD drive is there and functioning
properly. It really seems this is related to the MS update somehow
conflicting with this drive. Seems to coincidental that the drive would fail
directly after the MS update. Can’t find an updated driver anywhere for the
CD device.

My next step was goping to be removing all Office updates to restore system
to last working state.

Suggestions???

Hi Moondog,

You didn't mention the version of Office you're using, but
if you have Word 2002 or 2003 then hold down the ctrl key
when starting Word and use File=>Open to see if you can
access your CD ROM drive. If not, try restarting Windows
in safe mode with drive support (check your PC setup for
device detection as well) and see if it is accessible from
'My Computer'.
