CD Key on Installation Disk 2

Hi All,

A friend of mine (not good with computers) had her hard disk crash. I
helped her reinstall most stuff but we have come across a problem with MS
Office 2000 Professional. ((It is a clean install on a reformatted hard
disk)) There are two installation disks. Disk 1 contains MS office and this
installed fine - the CD key was accepted no problem, but CD 2 which has MS
Publisher on it also asks for the CD key and when we enter it we get an error
message indicating that the CD key is invalid. There is only one CD key on
the case.

My friend says she remembers having the problem the first time round but
can't remember how she solved it.

Has anyone had the same problem? Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Thanks
Phill

Are you trying to install Publisher from Disk 1? Did you try to install
Publisher from Disk 2?

No we are not trying to install Publisher from Disk 1. Just to be clear,
this is what happened.

Disk 1 inserted and setup starts
CD key entered and accepted
MS office installed: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Powerpoint
Installation process ends

CD2 inserted and a new setup programme starts
CD key requested, typed in and rejected

The words Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Access, Outlook Powerpoint are
printed on disk 1. The words Microsoft Publisher, Small Business Tools
and Shared clip art are printed on disk 2, so I think it is clear that
Publisher installs separately from disk 2. It's as if a different key is
required for Publisher but there is only one on the CD case.

Mary,

I can't believe it after days of effort my friend found another copy MS
Office 2000 she had. It appears she got the disks mixed up. Needless to say
when the correct disk was used the CD key worked OK.

I appreciate your effort in trying to help.

Phill
PS We are still friends

Hey, Phill, good news. Now you need to find the mate to the first second CD you
tried.
