Cell color

The boss at work has initiated a excel spreadsheet, where time is
tracked depending on normal time, or for instance, hospital
appointment. if I change, lets make this easy, cell A1 with an 8 for 8
hours, I want it to automatically change the cell yellow, but say I
delete that 8 from that cell, I want the cell to CLEAR contents, so
there is no formatting.

Any ideads?? Thanks in Advance!

Try a simple Conditional Formatting?

Select range of cells

Click Format > Conditional Formatting

Settings:

Condition 1
Cell Value Is | greater than | 0

Click Format > Patterns tab > select yellow > OK

Click Add >>

Condition 2
Formula Is | =""

Click Format > Patterns tab > select white* > OK
(*or the colour matching your background colour, if its not white)

Click OK
