Cell Entry Display Issue

T

TheRedOak

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel There is a problem when I set preferences to deselect "Double-click allows editing directly in the cell".

When I type a new entry in a cell it at only appears in the formula bar and the cell looks blank. I am now noticing that if I do a formula entry that refers to another cell, it does partially display the top have of the formula I am entering in the cell approximately a few rows below my entry cell, sort of floating over the spreadsheet, not actually in a cell...(a font issue maybe?).

After clicking the return key, the typed text appears as it should. If I continue to make changes to the formula, the entire formula is displayed a few rows below the cell I am entering in.

This "feature" makes it difficult to review my text as I type.

I like to leave preferences set this way so I can double-click a cell with a formula to see what cells are referred to by the formula.

This was not a problem in earlier versions of Excel. What can we do to get this bug fixed???

Details:

iMac h/w: 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo; 2 GB RAM
iMAC s/w: 10.4.11
Excel 2008: 12.2.3

I did report this issue many months (12?) ago...they told me they were able to repeat it and they would fix it, but has not happened yet.

I imagine it's pretty ow on the priority list compared to a number of
other issues, as well as preps for XLnext. Especially since, irritating
as it might be, it doesn't affect performance or accuracy.

Don't know who you talked to, but I've *never* been told that something
*would* be fixed unless it already had been fixed internally. OTOH, I've
been told a *lot* of times that an issue can be replicated, and that it
would be put on the list of things to fix...

Hi,

Be sure to paste your report into the Help > Send Feedback feature of
Excel. It wouldn't hurt to include your email address just in case
someone from Microsoft wants to contact you.

Although I did not have the problem of the formula appearing underneath
the cell I was working on, I was able to reproduce the blank cell
portion of your report, so these may be unrelated problems. If I were to
send this in, I would make two reports. One report for the blank cell,
the other for the formula edit appearing where you don't it expect it.
Microsoft tends to put only one issue in a bug report at a time.
