cell formatting in 2008

I have noticed problems with spreadsheets created in version 2004 and now used in version 2008. I format a column to show a date form eg: 2/21/08 and it will come up with a number 38,037.00 EVERY time. Even after I reformat the entire column. This happens quite a bit. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I haven't seen this problem. What if you format the specific cell? 38037 IS
2/21/08 so the value is correct. Does this problem appear after the workbook
is saved and reopened?

I have formatted the individual cell, the entire column and have saved and re-saved the document and it still puts the wrong format in the cell. It's a small, but annoying problem.

Does the alt return function still work in Mac? I haven't been able to add a return (line) within a cell.

Any help would be appreciated.

Still work? I don't think it ever did. Use command-Option to get multiple
lines in a cell.
