cell formatting

I am inputting 4e6 in a cell and selecting the format for General so
this "4E6" will display as i want, but instead it keeps reverting to
Scientific. How do I get this to maintain the General Format? I looked
at the Auto Format function but this didn't work for what I am needing.
Any advise?

Hi djackson!

Try widening the column with General Format.

Hi
A quick and dirty way to avoid having to reformat the cell as text is to precede your entry with an apostrophe. If you type

'4E

Excel will leave it as text. The ' will show in the formula bar but it won't show up in the cell

Good Luck
