Cell formatting

On my PC i can format column headings with month and year which are filled
accross the page. On the Office for Mac 2004 that i have just started using i
cannot get this date format to work. All that i get is the serial number. The
only format that i can get includes a day as well or one that increases the
year and not the month on the fill command.

You don't say how you're doing things on your PC, so I'm not sure what's
not working for you in MacXL.

If I enter Jan-2007 in A1, and CTRL- or right-click the fill handle
(lower right corner of A1), dragging to the right, I can choose Fill
Months from the popup menu that is displayed when I release the mouse
button (alternatively, select A1:xx1, choose Edit/Fill, and select
Months from the Date Unit group in the Series dialog.

Try going to Excel>Preferences>View - if the box for Formulas is checked,
clear the checkbox.

Thanks Bob that is useful information and has assisted with other worksheets.
I seem to have come to the conclusion that my problems are because i am
trying to update a template

Thanks for your assistance but i semm to have come to the conclusion that my
problm is that i am attempting to update a template. I have tried your
suggestion on this and a new worksheet but i do not get a popuplist when i
release the mouse after draging on the handle. I did not know about this
handle and had been using the Edit/Fill so that is something new for me.
Interrestingly i have found that i get better reponses from the mouse than
clicking the bottons on the touch pad which WAS my preferred method.
Many thanks
Rodders

That should make no difference at all with respect to filling a series.
Unlike Word document templates which have a different structure and
respond to document events, there's really nothing about XL templates
that would cause this kind of behavior.

Then you must be clicking and dragging rather than right- (or CTRL-)
clicking and dragging. Simply clicking and dragging does an "automatic"
fill...
