cell formula is not computing automatically

I have a formula which equals the sum of two cells, but in order for the
formula to work I have to manually re-enter the equal sign for it to
work each time. Can anybody help me?

Could be that you have Calculation set to Manual. Reset it to Automatic,
Tools - Options -Calculation tab. HTH Otto
