Cell shadows

Do we have to have the fuzzy shadow under the cell as we enter data?

I cannot see the need or point since it partly obliterates the cell below
until Entered

AFAIK, the point to distinguish the cell being edited from its
surroundings. It doesn't appear unless your Preferences are set to Edit
directly in cell. Editing directly in cell almost requires that the
display be done in a different manner, to allow longer entries to
overlap the cells to the right or below.

That could have been done in any number of ways. Personally I find it
attractive, and am not bothered by the partial obscuring (I think
"obliterating" is a bit over the top - the shadows themselves are mostly
transparent). However, de gustibus non disputandum est.

Ah! That's done it - unchecking "Edit directly in cell" has got me back to
no shadow - I should have tried that - all's well now, thank you JE
