Hi guys.

I have spreadsheets that have multiple lines in a single cell.

When I print them the lines are offset. Eg:

In the spreadsheet it looks like

line1
line2
line3

But when printed it looks like

line1
line2
li

why is this and how do I fix it.

I've tried several printers and print drivers. It even happens when printing to a pdf.

thanks

I'm not seeing this at all regardless of whether the cell is formatted to
Wrap Text or whether Opt+Cmd+return is used to force the line breaks.

Assuming your software is fully updated & the printer drivers are the most
current, etc. my guess is that it's caused by the manner in which the data
was entered. If copied/pasted from another source ‹ especially if from a web
page ‹ there are probably hidden characters in the content which account for
the erratic spacing.

What happens if you *type* the same content into a different cell, sheet or
workbook? Does the alignment problem persist? How about if you copy the cell
then paste it into a blank Word document ‹ how does it flow?

You might try selecting the text in the cell [not the cell itself] then
paste to another location using Edit> Paste Special> Text or other option if
available. Otherwise you may have to paste it into some sort of text app
(such as Word), clean it up, then paste it back in.

how are the cells formatted currency, accounting , etc

also to might highlight the entire column and align either left
justified , or Right Justified if not some type of number.

If currency use accounting instead and it will line up number with the
decimal points perfectly aligned if a negative number though will have
parenthesis around the number and the Dollar signs example: ($ 5.00)

Hi Phillip;

Can't be a "number" issue because Excel doesn't support multiple values in
the same cell :)

If the Wrapping is On, long numbers will wrap as you edit the cell but will
not display that way. As soon as you enter the content the number will
display in scientific notation on one line based on the width of the column,
even if you increase the row height.

If you type groups of digits & use line breaks to separate them they will
display on separate lines but are no longer treated as numbers ‹ the line
breaks are illegal characters in values. Most formatting for numbers will
not have any effect on the cell content ‹ One exception being a Style (such
as Currency or Comma) which includes indentation. In that case the
indentation only will apply but only to the first line. Other attributes of
the Style ($, commas, decimal display, etc.) won't apply to the text string.

Are you sure you are using the latest print driver? Is it set to the highest
print resolution?
