Centering Text in Landscape mode

I use landscape mode, set the left and right margins to
..500, but the text centers as if the document was still 8.5
inches wide. The Ruler and layout clearly show a landscape
formated page, but the text wraps inches before the 10.5
inch poisition it should wrap at in landscape mode.
