Hi Jpf,
Is it possible to create a merge document without a data file?
No... But you can use ASK and FILLIN without having to be in mailmerge.
1. Create a new document
2. Save it as a template
3. Set it up with all the text, pictures, etc. you need
4. Create the Fillin/ASK fields
- You'll find the fields in Insert/Field and can insert them from here
- There's quite a bit of information available in the dialog box. You
can also display the HELP by clicking the "?" button (top right), then
clicking the field name in the list.
- If you want to edit the field code directly (because of something
you've seen in Help), click the "Field codes" button. Once you're in this
mode, you can use the Options button to add things, as well.
5. Save the template and close
6. Use File/New (the New task pane, "templates on your computer") to open
the dialog box where all the available templates are listed. You should see
the one you just created. Select it, and Word should create a new document
from it, displaying the Fillin prompts.
Play around with this a bit, then come back with any more questions.
I want to create certificates where I am asked to FILLIN the information.
I understand FILLIN is better in this case than ASK since I will not be
using the info in more than one field.
