CGM Limitations in Word

K

Kent Smith

I have heard there is a registry fix or a fix in Word itself in fixing the
import issues in regards to inserting CGM files in a Word document. Our
software vendor has a $3000 dollar solution to take care of this issue
company wide but I would rather save the money.

Does anyone know a fix for importing CGM files into Word since the CGM
filter built into Word has limits?

Thanks,
Kent Smith

Hi Kent,

Can you be more specific on which limitations you are trying to address?

MS discontinued some support for CGM imports after Office XP (Word 2002), moving the older filter to a supplemental conversion pack
install.

The CGM filter they contracted to use was done quite a number of years back and the company that produced it is no longer there to
support it. If you're looking for the Show Options box, a variant of the registry change from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320335/en-us?FR=1
should work in older versions, but it shouldn't be a problem after Office 2000.

The CGM filter in Word only supports CGM-1992 v1.

There was a bug with opening a document from an older version of Word where the CGM files would not display, but that is fixed by
installing Office 2003 Service Pack 2.

There is a newer bug that needs a SP2 plus a hotfix to display CGM files in limited situations.
