CGM problems in Powerpoint 2003

Help.... after upgrading to Office 2003 I am on longer able to open SOME of
the .ppt files which contain inserted CGM's. When selected to open the
previewer shows the image in the slide show... but the file will not open and
the cpu goes to 100% (brand new IMB T41... its not the Pc). The files are
not corrupted and will open with powerpoint 2002 on another Pc.

Previously inserting CGM's was not a major problem... there is a converter
installed with Powerpoint. Now however only some CGM's will insert. The only
difference I easy see is that files with 600 X 600 pixels insert fine (the
converter works)... but if the file is 600 X 100 the file will not insert.
Its the .ppt files which contain the irregular size CGMs that will not open.

Other than re-installing PP 2002 which worked fine..... does anyone have a
suggestion on how to solve this problem??

Thanks

CGM is not really a popular filetype these days. Perhaps PowerPoint doesn't
install the filter by default - you could try installing the import filter
from the install CD.
In future I'd recommend using WMF or EMF as preferred vector filetype for
widest compatibility.

Ah. I wasn't aware of that graphics file type.

Can you convert the CGMs to WMF or EMF? They might be more reliable.

It sounds as if the filter that shipped with Office 2003 is either buggy or
modified (probably because of security issues, I'd guess) from the previous
version.

Hopefully someone else will have better ideas for you.

Back in the darks ages (CGA/EGA) cgm was THE only way of importing/exporting vector graphics.

Apart from dodgy HP Plotter (HPGL?) captures.
