Change a resource's max availability and see its effect

I want to change a resource's max availability to see what change in the
project will occur. Unfortunately, Project retains the original max units in
each task and does not change them even though they were changed in the
Resource. Can you suggest anything other than editing every task that they
were assigned to to make this change? (I tired Leveling but this didn't work
either).

Thanks, Tim

Hello Tim,

Select all tasks
Click the Resource Assignment button
Select the resource you want to change
Click Replace
In the Replace by window, select the same resource but with the new Units
Off you go

Explaining Jan's answer a bit - FYI, changing max units in the resource
information only sets a new cutoff above which the resource is considered
overallocated and also the default assignment level for new assigments for
the resource. It doesn't go back and change any currently existing
assignments as you've discovered. Leveling only functions to delay one or
more out of a set of conflicting tasks when a resource on them is booked for
a total usagethat is higher than the max allowed for him, resolving the
overallocation. It never changes the assignment level on individual tasks.

Many thanks for this explaination and Jan's practical advice.

On another matter, I have major grumble about the Gantt view and the lack of
wheel-mouse support - if you have used MS Visio you will know that using the
wheel with Ctrl zooms the view, with Shift it scrolls L & R, and on its own
it scrolls U & D. Any idea whether this functionality can be made available
in Project and other office products?

Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim,

MVP are just volunteers that help people, not directors of a Microsoft lab!
