In 2008 I write and edit 100-page long texts in draft view, and after a couple of hours my eyes get tired focusing on a white page. Is there a way to change the background color to a more relaxing beige?

Sorry, Mac Office does not allow you to do that. The only change you can
make is enable the "Blue background, white text" option in Word's General
preferences (Word>Preferences), but I'm afraid this combination is not
really relaxing. Still, it might be worth trying, if only as an alternative
to the white page.
