Change Backup Directory?

Is it possible to force Word 2002/XP to locate all backup copies in
one specific directory, rather than the individual document's save-to
directory? (Windows XP Pro)

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Shauna. But, FWIW, a half-way decent naming protocol would
avoid the problem you cite. And, saving backups to a separate
directory--or a separate disk--is the fastest, easiest way to avoid
corruption or other issues caused by disk problems.

Except that the backups aren't backups in that sense; they're not copies of
the latest version but instead just the previous saved version (a backup
doesn't exist till you've saved twice, and then it is the first saved
version).

What would be great is if you could specify that all backups for a given folder be stored in their own subfolder within that folder (call it 'Word Backups'), thus reducing the clutter and eye strain within this parent folder which is my issue.
