I want to change the colour of some of my clipart especially borders and
backgrounds. i do a lot of formatting in word and I have tried everything
but i am at a loss. can this be done? I write poetry and I would like to
have my formatting as unique as possible as well as complementing the poem.

Sometimes it can, sometimes it can't. Have you tried a custom border?

Also, I have over a million pieces of clipart at my fingertips. I've never
found it necessary to recolor something because there's always something
else that will convey the same message. If all you are doing is using
Microsoft's clipart, you're limiting yourself. ;-)

Yes: Most clip art is designed to come apart so you can edit the individual
components.

Try double-clicking it. If it's truly "clip art" and not a raster graphic,
it will open in edit mode. Select All and UNGROUP to be able to manipulate
the individual lines and boxes.

Some of the supplied clipart is in JPEG format: you can't edit that without
a full graphics program.

Cheers
