Change default cell format

Hi
I'd like to open new spreadsheets with the following format: number, 0 decimals, thousand separator "on", with negatives showing as red with parentheses.

How can I make this the default for every new Excel file?

Thanks

Create a new workbook and format it the way you want. You can also
modify the Normal style (Format/Style). Save it *as a template* under
the name "Workbook" (no quotes, no extension) in the XL startup folder,
which by default is

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 200x:Office:Startup:Excel

though you can change to an Alternate startup folder in
Preferences/General.

thanks it works on the first spreadsheet which you create but when you create a second file, called workbook1, it reverts to the stupid default format. And my saving the modified Normal style does not work, it does not remember my changes! Any other suggestions?
Thanks a lot in advance. I'm very frustrated, becasue it is so easy to do that in Windows!!!

Then you didn't format all the cells in the workbook, or else you didn't
save the file as a template.

You can also save a one-sheet template (properly formatted) as "Sheet"
in the same directory which will be used for any sheets you add to the
workbook.
